Designed to fast track a pipeline of diverse talent into the industry, the Promo Pathway Program trains young creative to write, produce and edit on-air promotions. Through a combination of courses, internships and mentorships, the students receive intensive training in short-form writing, creative execution, and video editing and production. In partnership with Santa Monica College, PromaxBDA mobilized industry-wide support to help make the Promo Pathway Program the first accredited on-air promotions training program in the US.
Tony Benitez, Promo Pathway 1 valedictorian, made the transition from military veteran to star talent in the on-air promo landscape. He started at Lifetime as an intern while in the Promo Pathway program. Upon graduation, Lifetime pulled him into a full-time freelance position as an associate producer. Tony quickly made the leap to a full-time employee of Lifetime as a junior writer producer.
Jesse Rugless entered the Promo Pathway with a BA in marketing and design. Upon graduation, he took a risk and left Los Angeles to work at a local station in Tyler, Texas, as a marketing producer. No better training ground for a preditor than the local station where a young talent will work across many different creative functions. After a little over a year in the local station, Jesse recently landed a job at Discovery as a production assistant on the promotion and marketing team.
Shanita Murray impressed industry executives from the moment she stepped on the PromaxBDA industry scene. She converted her internship at Style into a full-time production assistant position. After 18 months at Style, Warner Bros hired her to work on the on-air promotion team. Shanita is thriving in the promotion and marketing pipeline as a junior writer producer.
Jenny Monzon, a student of Santa Monica College and alumni of Promo Pathway 1 had an amazing internship opportunity at Telemundo in Miami. After spending a summer working on the team of Susan Solano Vila, EVP of marketing at Telemundo, she returned to Los Angeles to continue in an internship position at the Telemundo 52, the local station in Los Angeles. Jenny transferred to Cal State Northridge at the same time that both Telemundo in Miami and Telemundo 52 offered her a full-time position. In order to complete her BA degree, she remained in Los Angeles to work at Telemundo 52. Susan’s team in Miami has kept the door open for Jenny as she is one of the brightest young promo stars in Spanish language media.

"Being chosen to participate in the inaugural PromaxBDA Scholars program was not only a wonderful and humbling
experience but also an amazing chance to meet with some of the most talented and creative people in the television
marketing, promotion and design industry. Because of this program, I was blessed with an offer to work at Pivot.tv

will always be an invaluable part of my learning experience throughout my career." – Tony Grajeda, SCAD
"The PromaxBDA Scholars Program was truly a life changing experience for me on so many levels. Before attending

amazing opportunity, I can genuinely say that I've found my focus and I know what I want and where I see myself in
five years." – Arceny Castillo, City College of New York
"The Scholars Program afforded the opportunity to truly engage with insightful, influential individuals. Whether in brief
conversations or more formal discussions, the conference lived up to its title – engage. As someone who spent four
years studying the television industry and its future, to be an active participant in such thought-provoking conference
sessions was beyond rewarding (and so much fun!). The scholars program instills a heightened self-awareness and
offers indispensable guidance to navigating one's own career path."
– Charlotte Lipman, Syracuse University

this opportunity is second to none" – Eric Donnelle Beard, Howard University

"suits." As the first cohort of PromaxBDA Scholars, we represented the emerging millennial generation
of entertainment marketing innovators." – Jonathan Hannah, Morehouse College
"The Scholars Program and the PromaxBDA conference not only helped me gain valuable insight about the television
industry but also opened many doors of opportunity that I wouldn't have had elsewhere. The people I met and the

evolving media industry." – Shelby Romero, University of Southern California
In a deliberate effort to identify and recruit high-potential, diverse creative student talent into the sports and entertainment marketing industries, PromaxBDA created the PromaxBDA Creative Internship Program. Working closely with participating networks, local stations and agencies across the United States, PromaxBDA places students with demonstrated creative acumen and ambition in full-time paid internships that are designed to train and/or convert student talent into the workforce.
Moving away from a “foot in the door” mindset, PromaxBDA supports emerging talent in their efforts to make a successful transition into the entertainment marketing workforce, and then, thrive in the early stages of their careers.
It's one thing to get the first job in the industry you love. It’s another to flourish in the early stages of a career that aligns with your passions, interests and skills. The Kick Starter Program is a six-month program that matches emerging talent with seasoned professionals who will guide them to develop their creative muscle and anchor skills or communications, relationship building and influence.
While alumni of the Scholars Program and the Promo Pathway Program are primary candidates of the Kick Starter Program, PromaxBDA does accept applicants from members with two to five years’ experience.
